Over the last 10 years, Maya has become a West Main Street staple. Close to the historic downtown mall and the University of Virginia, the once neglected neighborhood is booming with some of the most interesting restaurants in town.
Honoring the Old Southern Kitchen, Maya offers a fresh, succulent menu full of locally sourced foods. Their motto, “Come Home to Eat”, rings true while you’re tasting the mouthwatering cornmeal-fried duck tenderloin or the local trout with caper butter and a slice of pear crumble cheesecake for dessert. Not to mention the comforting selection of sides, like macaroni & cheese, white cheddar stone-ground grits, collard greens, and Brussel sprouts with bacon and onions. They offer a number of vegetarian and gluten-free options as well.
Keep in mind, when visiting Maya it’s best to let the informative staff recommend a cocktail that pairs well with your food. The friendly, award-winning bartender, Ted Norris, knows his stuff, from signature drinks to classic cocktails, wines, and beers.
A motivational wall in the staff area, where manager Johnson Bowers posts customer reviews, is a beautiful testament to how important the customer experience is at Maya.
With two floors of welcoming space and a seasonal outdoor patio, Maya is perfect for large parties and private events. You can’t go wrong!
