Harrison and Jennifer Keevil started this neighborhood grocery store in the summer of 2016 by starting with a small selection of delicious sandwiches. They serve breakfasts and lunch varieties and also take-away dinners that change every week to keep the menu fresh and full of new surprises.
But to understand the full story, we have to go back in history. Harrison, a native Virginian, moved to Charlottesville to study politics at UVA. Later he got a job in London where he discovered the enchanting Borough market and fell in love with food from around the world. Pursuing his new passion, he returned to the US to attend the International Culinary Center in New York and then again moved back to the UK to work at the famous Fat Duck restaurant. There he learned the foundations of cooking in a three Michelin star restaurant.
After meeting his wife, Jennifer, who was also in the food business, they decided to strike out on their own. In 2009, they opened the Brookville restaurant in the local mall, which became the focus of their culinary passion for the next seven years. Then, after starting a family, they realized they needed to do something smaller that would allow for more creative exploration. Thus K&K was born.
The bestsellers at K&K are the all day breakfast sandwiches on homemade biscuits, their version of the Cuban sub, and the burgers. Coffee, cupcakes and sweet pastries are also available. In the convenience store you will find beers, wines, local snacks, coffee beans and gifts made by local artists.
A great time to check them out is Friday nights when they put on “pinchos” nights with cider, wine, beer, and tapas that will delight the taste buds.
