“Hello guys, here is your food and here is some fresh water for the puppy… Enjoy it!”
Beer Run is pet friendly, kid friendly and an overall great neighborhood hangout. It was started in 2007 by Josh Hunt and his stepbrother John Woodriff, but it was their mother’s idea. This is a cool family and so are their restaurants (they also own the beer garden Kardinal Hall). With the initial idea of a beer shop, it was later turned into a popular café. Now the place is usually bustling and it is considered to have the best brunch in town and best draft beer by the local magazine C-VILLE.
Virginia State has a particular regulation on alcohol sales for bars and restaurants and it is mandatory that all places selling booze need to make most of their profit by selling food. This has created all sorts of business inventions in Charlottesville and every time we see alcohol there is also a good kitchen around. Beer run is luckily one of these Frankenstein eateries.
Beer Run offers a well known classics menu ranging from small weekday breakfast sandwiches, lunch salads and wraps, dinner mains, Saturday tacos and the outstanding Sunday brunch. To name some of the most successful options: Turkey Trot, Chicken Philly, El Guapo Breakfast Burrito, Beer Run Nachos, Grilled Salmon, Power House Omelet, and the tasty avocado toast with natural bacon. Bloody Mary storms the room on Sundays and people love it…
Regarding craft beers, along with the selection on tap, the beer shop carries more than 800 types of canned and bottled beers made by breweries from all over the country and internationally. Devon Callan, the weekend shop keeper, showed us some of the best local beers from Champion, Three Notch’d and Blue Mountain Brewery. “Beer varieties are evolving. Flowers, fruits and barrel aged are trendy now. There is a beer for everybody…”
